Love Never Fails!

February 2021 / Adar 5781Love Never Fails - A few Post-Valentine’s musingsI had the honor of interviewing David Rubin, former Mayor of Shiloh, Israel on our podcast [ “To Life! with Myles Weiss / THE Hope behind the Headlines”] It is part one, as we have so much more to speak about regarding the current global political situation in the light of Biblical prophecy. In this first part, you will hear David’s astounding testimony of he and his 3-year-old son’s miraculous deliverance after being shot in a terrorist attack on the roads of Israel. In honor of David’s commitment to the recovery of child victims of terror, our offering this month will go to his work at Shiloh Israel Children's Fund. A true Valentines gift!Love Never Fails1 Cor 13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. This month, sales of flowers, chocolate, jewelry and greeting cards temporarily boosted many Western economies. Valentine’s day is a traditional time to celebrate romantic love.Imagine if traditional Judeo-Christian love and marriage were illegal! Sounds crazy, no? But Valentine’s Day has its origins in just such craziness. In the third century, Emperor Claudius proclaimed a prohibition of marriage for young people. He did this based on the erroneous idea that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers. The emperor believed married soldiers would be cautious, afraid for their wives or families if they died in battle. In the midst of a very secular and permissive culture, some young people were attracted to Christian faith. The church thought and taught that marriage is very sacred: between one man and one woman for life. A priest named Valentine encouraged them to marry within the church, and he secretly married them in defiance of the Emperor’s edict.Valentine was caught, imprisoned and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies. One of his accusers, Asterius, had a blind daughter. Tradition says that Valentine led her to Messiah and her eyes were healed in the process. In the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a three-part execution: beating, stoning, and decapitation because of his stand for Christian marriage. It is said the last words he wrote were in a note to Asterius' daughter. He inspired today's romantic cards by signing it, "from your Valentine."God is love (1 John 4:8)We have found that when we yield to the Holy Spirit of God and put His scriptures into practice, we can walk in love with each other. Now, of course, some days are better than others! We know what to do, it is up to each of us to do it better, and sooner. You can read about these interventions in our book, When Heaven Hits Home.We were married immediately after Bible College, where we learned in counseling class about the “conference table”. This was to be a place set aside for resolution of conflict. One immediate conflict we faced was that our postage stamp sized flat had no room for a conference table. We set up two dime-store “directors” chairs as our conference area. We learned to go to “the chairs” quickly to find the Lord and His solutions for us.This choice has served us well. God uses it to show us His heart for one another, the lost, our Arab cousins, Muslims trapped in darkness, and our “enemies”.Do we do this perfectly?Of course not; after all, [s]he’s a [wo]man, so naturally we are worlds apart! After 33 years of marriage, we can honestly say we are each other’s “Valentine.”God still has a love letter to the beleaguered USA Wouldn’t it be grand if, as a country, we had a “conference table” where we could inquire of His thoughts and feelings towards one another? His plans for our country have not changed. He intends us to be a “city on a hill” that remains the land to which everyone want to come.Pray with us that the globalist agenda to bring the US down would not stand. The implications of that take-down are perilous for the entire earth.Pray that we would see the revival and awakening needed to overcome our wayward path as believers and as a nation.Pray that we would all have the boldness to face the threat of “cancel-culture”, “de-platforming” and “de-monetization” just as the early believers faced and our brothers and sisters around the world face today.God is love.Let Him love others through you, regardless of what they currently believe.Thank you for your prayers and support for House of Peace. This month we will be supporting Shiloh Israel Children’s Fund. The remarkable story of this heroic help for victims of terror is featured on our podcast! Please join us in supporting this amazing work in the heartland of Israel. With Gratitude, Myles and Katharine
